Fourth generation Volkswagen Caddy has been confirmed for its launch in the second quarter of 2015. It is designed to rival the Ford Transit Connect which has already been refreshed with driver assistance system and euro-6 emission standards. It gets a refreshed look from the inside and has an improved exterior as well. The VW caddy will built on the success of the third generation because it has sales of almost 1.5 million units in last eleven years. It is the first time since eleven years when the Caddy is receiving a big refresh.
It is receiving big scale interior changes, but the exterior changes are minor where it has received a revised pair of taillights, revised bumpers on both ends – front and rear, redesigned tailgate and side panels. Passenger carrier models have tinted windows for rear doors. As said above, interior has noticeable changes with a new dashboard and centre console, updated switchgear inspired from very expensive Volkswagen models and classic materials. It has a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a new infotainment and navigation system.
Volkswagen Caddy engine line-up is also compliant with Euro-6 regulations. It offers a new 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel engine with three different power outputs of 74bhp, 101bhp and 148bhp. A Caddy BlueMotion will also appear as a very capable model of over 70mpg. Meanwhile, some of the Euro-5 diesel engines will remain in action with possibly lower price tags though.
Volkswagen is also offering a new series of safety technologies as an option for the first time. It includes, front assist monitoring system, city emergency braking system – this system applies the brakes if it detects any impending low-speed collision. If there is a chance of the high-speed collision, it continue applying the brakes to avoid collisions.
It is not the end of features offered in new Volkswagen Caddy, others include Light Assist system, Driver Alert System, Adaptive Cruise Control System, park assistance with reverse cameras. Volkswagen officials said that the new Caddy will arrive in Germany in June, it is highly likely that the UK sales will start soon after the German markets. Prices are not confirmed yet, but officials say that it will be confirmed prior to release of new Caddy.
