Audi has put together its A3 model and the most innovative powertrain to dominate the Hybrid market in the UK. The A3 has been re-profiled with the E-tron technology which will be the first plug-in Hybrid from any German automaker in the UK.
All new E-tron is powered by 1.4-litre TFSI engine and an electric motor to develop a Golf GTI rival. This combination will develop the power punch of 201bhp and a torque of 350 Nm. This power output is enough to crank out 0-62 miles per hour in just 7.6 seconds.
Audi A3 TFSI Engine offers an outstanding fuel economy of 176.6 miles per gallon and carbon emissions of only 37g/km. These figures help to keep the road tax as low as possible and on papers, Audi said that it is possible to achieve 580-miles range. The electric power range lasts up to 31 miles at the speed of 80mph on electric power alone.
Electric motor is housed between the engine and six-speed twin-clutch box. It allows the A3 to drive on electric-only or battery only mode. This electric motor position allows the engine to boost performance and driver can select the energy distribution modes with the help of a pushbutton on the dashboard. It offers four driving modes from EV, Hybrid, Hold and Charge.
It has sophisticated technology for self-charging , when lithium-ion cells drain out, Charge mode uses the engine to recharge the batteries again. People in Europe claim that when car runs 40mph on the EV only mode, it drains down batteries early due to lack of torque and fires up the engine even with ΒΌ charging left in the batteries.
If you are very sensitive on the throttle, then transition between the petrol and electric will not be as smooth as it could be. When you push the throttle, the 1.4-litre engine becomes apparent and it silently whispers along the electric system.
