Jaguar Land Rover is looking at Hungry and Poland as their new manufacturing sites for the Land Rover Defender. They also confirmed that the next generation will be built at the new production facility. According to the report in the Financial Times, the new production facility will be built in Eastern Europe and will be based on the new aluminium architecture and will first host the Defender.
The new Defender has been named as the project Darwin with the codename of L663. As history shows that the defender has the best ever sales record and the new plant will be able to support the production line of the company.
JLR also has the plans to manufacture the Discovery 5 at the same platform. JLR boss has narrowed down their search for the factory site and the most likely place is the Gyor, near Hungary. The second base is somewhere in Poland, but this is not confirmed.
Although JLR already has three plants in UK but they are unable to fulfil the demand. Evoque and the Discovery sport are based on the D8 steel platform and are currently built in Halewood plant, which is working at full capacity.
The F-Pace and the XF models are being produced at the Castle Bromwich plant which is the only site based on aluminium architecture. Range Rover and Jaguar XE are being built at the Solihull plant which is also working at full capacity. The Discovery 5 is also based in Solihull.
According to the reports, Range Rover will be staying in UK but the Land Rover models will be shifted to the new production facility outside the UK.
