The German automaker BMW has confirmed yet another time that orders and demand for its forthcoming i8 plug-in hybrid will go above the initial supply consignment, though BMW didn’t release any precise numbers. BMW will start manufacturing i8 next month and deliveries will commence in June for the i8. All these i8 cars will be powered by a 318 horse power powertrains. The news is very reliable with November estimation from BMW which indicated that the first year of i8s were fundamentally spoken for in advance.
We knew that in late January, the number of BMW i3 battery-electric vehicles was imported to the US and they literally won’t meet required units throughout that vehicle’s first year of sales either. All the orders against i3 were disturbed due to a statement of BMW about the performance of i8, in which they confirmed the fuel economy of new electric car and stated that i8 got the equivalent of 94 miles per gallon. But these figures were a bit off where tests show that these numbers are bit high with 112 mpg when tested on the European cycle. So if anybody was holding out for a BMW i8 then just keep calm and love waiting because the countdown has started.
BMW is the only actual opponent to Tesla in electric vehicles and as Tesla already having plenty of problems to deal with, so when it comes to high performance plug-in vehicles, Tesla will be having very tough time soon. One thing that BMW and Tesla have in common is that the BMW plug-ins, like the vehicles made by Tesla, are being built from scratch and don’t presently have EV powertrains plunged into existing vehicle platforms. Whether or not the fight is really a two-team race and something we’re not confident is fully determined yet.
