BMW has designed space-saving transverse layout of the engine in the second generation of BMW X1 instead of the longitudinal, the one installed in the first generation. The new engine layout not only helps to provide more interior space but also it brings more safety features.
You get the advantage of front-wheel drive even with the lower end models of second-generation X1, whereas in first-generation there was only rear-wheel drive. BMW X1 has engines with both gearbox options.
You can get eight- speed Steptronic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. This is a complete new addition to existing gearbox of the first generation X1 series. The second- generation BMW X1 has an option of both petrol and diesel engines, the petrol engine is part of B48 engine family and delivers 189bhp.
The diesel engine is a quite innovative development, coming from B47 engine family instead of N47 category, already being used in the first-generation X1.
The new X1 has more ‘uneven’ shape that gives a stylish and unique look to the car as compared to previous X1 series. Interior of the car has elegant designs and includes the standard amenities, i.e. classic audio system, colorful 6.5-inch display, air conditioning and advance iDrive operating system.
The external design and body color depict an artistic nature of designers and their love for colors. BMW has used UKL platform to bring a sophistication of designs, shape and color.
It is expected that customer will be able to get the car by autumn in the UK. However, the price has been revealed before the launch of SUV in coming Frankfort Motor show. The X1 will be offered in the range of £26,780 to £36,060.
