Volvo was handed over to Zhejiang Geely a Chinese automaker several years ago and they are putting all their efforts to renovate the Volvo as the car of 21st century. The Chinese manufacturer has conducted an intensive research on the development and invests almost multi billion dollars in order to reinvent the Volvo engines for new era. It is the first step towards the targets of Chinese controlled Volvo, they are utilising some advanced technology for elevated performance and fuel economy because these are the factors which are exclusively required by new generation of automobiles.
However Volvo is controlled by Chinese management but it is still working as an independent and re-energised auto manufacturing firm. They are gambling on a different engine policy for all platforms, from an SUV to a city car or from Volvo XC Coupe to sports car, they have announced an entirely new power train called Drive-e.
The Drive-e system is based on four cylinder engine which is smaller, lighter and efficiently produced for the power generation that we usually expect from six or eight cylinder engines with just four cylinders. In an exertion to abridge and reorganize invention, just two engines will be offered: a 2.0-litre turbocharged with 4-cylinders that generates 240 hp called T5, and a matchless, 302 hp version of 2.0-litre 4-cylinder that integrates both a turbocharger and supercharger, called the T6.
It is something more than just a powertrain; it is a philosophy that dedicated to efficient and environmental friendly performance from Drive-e engines. This engine is likely to be paired with eight speed gearbox for utmost performance and driveability. World’s state of the art technologies like start/stop, and brake regeneration systems are installed. There is a computer system introduced in the engine to monitor fuel injection levels and these technologies are the part of Drive-e system.
To enjoy these sophisticated technologies in a single powertrain you have to wait till Volvo introduces it in any of its models.
