Volkswagen Golf is a small family car produced by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen since 1974. It is also known and marketed worldwide across seven generations with name of Volkswagen Golf GTI. It belongs to hatchback class,
offers class, practicality, quality and refinement by the bucket load, while the VW badge is also a major boon compared to the less enticing Ford, Vauxhall and Skoda brands, against which it competes
Since its beginning VW has a lot of range of engines throughout, generation wise. Golf GTI with fuel injected 1.6-litre engine capable to take the vehicle up to 110m/h, then we have Golf Mk2 with 1.8 litre 8 valve fuel injected engine from its launch and its second edition with 1.8-litre engine fuel injected 16was introduced valve. Under the badge of MK2 there are also Gl, CL, GLI and G60 type engines produced by VW, In VW Golf MK3 a new turbo charged direct injection TD engine introduced in nineties. It was a narrow-angle 2.8llitre VR6 type engine. VW replaced its 2.8 litreVR6 engine with new high performance 3.2 litre engines, used in GOLF R32.
In the year of 2004 VW introduced 1.4 litre TSI turbocharged [petrol engine with front-wheel drive in its MK5 series. the MK6 Golf is available with both 5 and 6-speed manual transmission and 6 or seven-speed direct shift gearbox, meanwhile VW introduced its 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine with 177lb/ft torque and 2.0-litre line with TSI petrol and TFSI turbocharged engines.
Now the seventh generation Golf GV II has been around since 2013, and is available in three and five doors hatchback format. the Golf VII uses new MQB platform .GTI is available in a turbocharged 2.0 litre Engine four cylinder along with Golf R with Haldex Traction all wheel drive .
The VW Golf has had several generations made electric c models. There’s a huge range of power plants to choose from, with some excellent petrol engines and efficient diesel, plus a GTE plug-in Hybrid and fully electric e –Golf. The GTE combines a 1.4 petrol engine with battery power, for a combined power output of 210bhp. The e- Golf works on batteries alone, and offers a good performance from 113 bhp electric motor, though its range is severely limited.
Few cars in any class can be handled as security and predictability as the Volkswagen Golf. Despite its supple suspension, body sway is kept neatly in check through tight twist and turns. Overall the MQB platform offers safe and, balanced handling. The stiffer GTI and GTR models are even sharper to drive.
With four wheel drive the GTR has added the advantage of being able to put its power down more easily even on slippery roads compared with the two wheel drive GTI models.
Volkswagen Golf has a superb interior with lot of space and good seating arrangements. The exterior is solid with under stable looks, peerless refinement and good performance. A little bit expensive a compare with different available models in the same category but it does hold on its value like no other mainstream family hatchback have.
