The new Skoda Superb offers a combination of a practically huge cabin, comfortable suspension, excellent fit and finish, and of course, refined diesel engines. When compared to the Ford Mondeo and VW Passat, the Superb is very well priced.
When you want it to be, the new Superb can be genuinely quite brisk, thanks to Skoda 2.0-litre diesel engine which generates 187 bhp and 295lb ft of torque. Skoda claims that it takes less than eight seconds for a sprint to 62mph from a standstill.
It is mated with Skoda’s six-speed DSG gearbox which shifts quite quickly once you are running, but if you want to drive real fast, it unfortunately, proves slow-witted. On the other hand, the manual one is sweeter than the automatic six-speed gearbox which also feels cumbersome when you manoeuvre in slow.
Depending on one of the driving modes you’ve selected, its optional Dynamic Chassis Control alters the dampers to give you a smoother ride. But if you really want to enjoy a comfy driving experience, it is advised to put it in Comfort mode.
With fine quality materials, as premium as you could find on any other vehicle of this class, the dashboard is so nicely finished. A large, central touchscreen is dominating the dash is a delightful manner and it houses Skoda’s highly adored infotainment system.
Inside the cabin, the front and rear seats have been put in such a manner where the sheer distance between them has risen up the biggest problem in the Superb, your ability to communicate with passengers sitting in the back seats. They literally can’t hear you talking to them, and the only reason for that is the enormous leg room that Skoda has provided for five adults to comfortably stretch out. It is so huge that even the six-footers can easily sit behind one another.
Now you might be thinking that they probably have sacrificed a lot of boot capacity to offer such gigantic leg room, but let us assure you that it still has unbelievable load space, 595 litres with seats in place and when they are folded down, it becomes 1700 litres.
Yes, definitely. But first you need to be clear about what option should you go for. A 2.0-litre TDi Superb will cost you around £28,000. And if you keep on adding features, it will go above £31,000, but it’s worth spending for.
