BMW has just entered into another segment of seven seater people carriers and this time they have selected an entirely new range of vehicles to target the market. It is all new 2 series Gran Tourer with the capacity of handling a family. It ultimately has several drawbacks that its rivals will try to use as their plus points. It is not that practical and even not that flexible as the rivals like C4 Picasso, Grand Picasso, Ford C- Max and VW Touran are. But the 2 series gran Tourer has several other attractive tweaks and facets that appeal its customers along with the allure of the BMW badge.
It was a long required option from the BMW lovers that BMW should have a Gran Tourer to take all their family in it. As BMW has not have any seven-seater available, they have to look to other options available in the market.
It shows that BMW fans were demanding a luxurious and even sportier family carrier for their larger families. The Gran Tourer is a sporty MPV in the costume labeled as BMW 2 series.
This is a second new model of BMW which is preponderantly front wheel drive. It is a seven seater version of the five-seater two series Active Tourer which is launched 2014. The most exorbitant 220d version of the 2 series Gran Tourer are also accessible with xDrive which impels power the back wheels. In the end these underpinnings will discover their route under the coming generation 1 Series and X1 further to the alternates for the more MINIs.
By observing the mechanical parts to a great extent in advance, a significant amount of inside space is liberated. Even by the comparison of 2 series Grand Tourer and the Active Tourer we come to the point that the 2 Series Gran Tourer is only 214mm longer and 53mm taller than the Active Tourer and it conserves extra space for additional pairs of small posterior seats and as well as space for 1820 liters of cargo.
Output is the core for the greater part of powertrains presented in the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, with the least expensive to run being the manual gearbox-just 216d, presenting to 68.9mpg and CO2 discharges of 108 g/km.
At a claimed 64.2 mpg and discharges of 115 g/km, both BMW manual and automated systems of the 218d propose indistinguishable results. In spite of the automatic, four-wheel drive 220d scarcely discredits itself with cases of 57.6 mpg and 129 g/km of CO2, regardless of finishing the 0-62 mph speeding up test in a prompt 7.8 seconds.
The short distance travelers show their tendency towards petrol suit. The 218i intends the less running expenses, with cases of 53.3 mpg and 123 g/km for versions with the manual gearbox; automatics are somewhat lower standard at 52.3mpg and 126g/km, individually. As the all-new Gran Tourer 2 series has the badge of BMW, it carries the DNA of BMW. The BMW DNA has its active ingredient of EfficientDynamics, start/stop technology and for this specific model, it has an energy reproduction system and coasting function.
