If you are crazy about cars and have comprehensive knowledge regarding them, then I can bet that you keep good remarks about BMW 220d xdrive. It is a luxurious car from BMW production. It’s a German vehicles manufacturing company, dealing with its customers exceptionally well since 1916.
If we observe 220d xdrive engine deeply, we realize that the 220d has a new strong 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine known internally as B47. It is part of the Germans’ new approach towards engine production that observes gas and diesel mills sharing up to almost 40% of the parts in between them.
Of course, the trademark sound of diesel is still there but it is drastically improved regarding NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). Smartly delivering 190 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, there is also a notable increase in performance as well. As a matter of fact, this is the focus of our test takers also, to see whether this diesel can be both sporty and frugal at the same time.
When taking a closer look at the spec sheet, test takers noticed that they should not have been surprised at all. The BMW 220d xDrive is fast, reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 6.9 seconds and going straight up to a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph).
You can call it what you want, a coincidence or simply a bad driving but test takers were really impressed by the pulling power displayed by the German. The very same thing could be said about this active car on the highway, where they noticed that the acceleration is firm almost up to 100 mph (160 km/h), which should be more than enough for anyone that is not looking to break land-speed records or the law just as a matter of fact.
On the highway, it will directly depend on how fast you want to ride. By keeping the speedometer needle at around 70 mph (110 km/h) will show you a fuel consumption of around 5 l/100 km (47 mpg), while going faster, at around 80 mph (130 km/h), will take you closer to 6 l/100 km (39 mpg), a fairly small change considering the speed increase.
The ride of this car is somehow harsh due to its adaptive dampers, specifically in Sport mode and still, you never ever feel uncomfortable but rather in perfect control. The xDrive system used is the very same as on the 1 Series and the remaining of the traditional RWD models and it does send most of its grunt to the back wheels, making this a canyon carver along with attitude.
Slides are quite easy to pull, especially because of the 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque accessible from 1,750 RPM and the DSC system can be easily turned off, admittedly not wholly. To conclude, it can be said that on the basis of its powerful and compact engine, it is a great vehicle.”
