Powered by three-cylinder turbo petrol or diesel engines, the new models for the all-new X1 line-up from BMW has been announced. When the company first unveiled its X1 earlier this year, it only consisted of four-cylinder engines mated to automatic gearbox only. Let’s find out what BMW has got for us this year
A front-wheel drive mini SUV, the 2016 BMW sDrive16d, is the first entry point in the X1 line-up. When we say entry level, that means a highly frugal, B37 1.5 litre three-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 116 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. Matted to a six-speed automatic gearbox, this beautiful machine, the X1 sDrive16d, takes only 11.1 seconds for a sprint of 62mph from standstill and keeps on pushing till it hit the limits of 118 mph, its top speed.
If you use the standard tyres on the BMW X1 sDriver16d, then as per EU standard, the fuel consumption for 100 kilometres is just 3.9 litres and the CO2 emissions of 104 grams per kilometre correspondingly. But if you use the larger (19 inch) tyres, the fuel consumption will climb to 4.1 litres and the emissions t0 109 g/km.
If you are fond of all-wheel drive, then the new BMW X1 xDrive18d is just the right vehicle for you with its four-cylinder diesel engine. Depending on the gearbox, the all-wheel drive version of the 150 bhp diesel takes 9.2 seconds for a sprint to 62mph from a standstill with its 6-speed manual and 9.3 seconds with eight-speed gearbox and reaches a 127 mph. The consumption is also dependent on the tyres you choose for your vehicle. The normal tyres will consume 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres, whereas the last one will take 4.9 litres.
When you opt for the petrol powered engine, then the entry-level sDrive18i is the best pick. It is powered by the same B38 three-cylinder petrol engine which is being used by MINI Cooper. This engine produces 136 bhp and 162 lb-ft of torque. Now BMW offers a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox.
For a run from standstill to 62mph it just 9.7 seconds, and the consumption, depending on tyres and gearbox used, sDrive18i uses 5.1 to 5.6 litres per 100 kilometres.
