The original DS was introduced by PSA Peugeot Citroen sixty years from today in 1955 and now its global sale boss Ribault says that the brand will concentrate on the B, C, and D- segments in the future and will only focus on the SUVs and saloons due to increase in demand. He also said that the DS is looking for an SUV model for Europe in the near future.
The DS 6 is a China-specific model and this SUV will especially be engineered for the Chinese market and offered with petrol engines and automatic transmissions. However, the diesel engines will be offered in Europe only because Europe is shifting to the diesel versions.
According to these statements from the DS sales boss, it is clear that the three-door DS hatchback will be replaced with a compact SUV in the future, most probably at the end of this decade. Remaining five models will possibly be the saloons. China has a great importance for the DS models and there is a strong chance that the Chinese market might ask for a customised model as well.
Dynamic hyper comfort will be the vital factor in the future models and it is a very unique quality that DS describes as a “delicate balance between dynamic handling and extreme comfort”
Ribault also hinted that the successful World Rally Championship DS 3 car might be removed from the Citroen’s WRC list. Where PSA and DS are looking for a new kind of vehicle for future racing. Premium models increase profitability for a business.
