Ohio is very important place for Ford these days after the statement that production of the next-generation F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks would shift from Mexico production assembly to the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio. It was stated just a few weeks ago. Now, Ford is spending $500 million for hiring new workers at its Lima Engine Plant in Lima, Ohio, to start up the production of the twin turbo 2.7-litre V6 EcoBoost engine. These engines will empower the f-150 trucks in 2015. Ford is also working on its new engine assembly line which would be more flexible and based on 700,000 square feet for plants, machines and assembly areas.
The Lima factory is already building 3.5 Litre and 3.7 Litre engines for several Ford models since 1957. It is the parent company for almost 40 million engines since it started back in1957 for the first time. The all new 2.7 Litre EcoBoost engine will give the performance similar to V8 engines but with better efficiency and fuel economy and it is planned to use in F-150 light trucks. It will be available in several trims but intelligent start/stop technology will be offered as standard on all F-150 models.
It will be automatically deactivated when the truck will use for towing and or as four wheel drive. The structure of new engine is made from compacted graphite and aluminium alloys in order to reduce weight and increase strength. Ford already acknowledges that V6 engines are already very popular in the F-150 trucks and with 57 per cent of trucks being equipped with 3.5 Litre EcoBoost engine or naturally aspirated 3.7 Litre engines. However 3.5 Litre EcoBoost engine units are turbocharged as well.
You will be able to buy F-150 truck in the last quarter of 2014 and it will be offered with V6 3.5 Litre, 2.7 Litre EcoBoost and 3.5 Litre EcoBoost engine, however you can ask for a 5.0 Litre V8 as well.
