The third generation Focus RS is gearing up to make an appearance in 2016, and will be powered by an EcoBoost engine of 2.3 Litres. The RS will be produced on the same platform which is used for standard model of the Focus. It‘s still two years before the third generation is expected to be launched, that shows the business development strategies of Ford and how they are trying to strengthen their business.
In the third generation, it is still a front wheeler that will draw its power from a 2.3 Litre EcoBoost engine of four cylinders, the same monster used in the American muscle Mustang. It is capable of developing a power punch of 330bhp with a limited slip-differential and Ford’s innovative, torque-steer-reducing front suspension system with mechanical specification.
Ford has been increasingly talking about the chances of an innovative Focus RS for couple of years and now they have confirmed officially that the model will be added to Ford’s fleet. The Focus has been the flagship model of Ford for decades.
This time, Focus RS is based on performance and in this regard, Ford is using the power unit from Mustang. Sources have indicated that the new Focus RS will generate 10% extra power from its 2.5 Litre turbocharged engine compared to the one it is swapping. The torque is also raised up beyond the second generation RS. With the engine replacement, power is being increased by 10% and fuel economy is set to be improved by 20% from its second generation.
This boost in economy mainly comes from the new engine which is lighter in weight and more fuel efficient, thanks to the EcoBoost technology. All of these changes made in the new generation, make the Focus RS lighter and aerodynamic than ever before. It will be available in market almost a year before the standard model is replaced in 2017-18 but there is no information about the price tag for the RS.
