Mercedes says that the new A Class will arrive in two years and it will be a more practical and premium hatchback based on exclusively revised MFA platform and a newly build Mercedes A Class 2.0 litre diesel engine.
It is a fourth generation of Mercedes A Class expected to arrive in 2018. It will be based on the current formula of Mercedes Benz to balance the hatchback. This new model will have an exclusively extended roofline however the existing models are more focused on styling and appearance. But the new model will be a practical and friendly model and it will offer some extra head room for the passengers on the rear seats.
The all new A Class has been reinvented from the old fashioned MPV mini vehicles to the standard hatchback model. These modifications were first introduced back in 2012 with the right appeal but the execution was not that right. This fourth generation will be on the UK roads in next two years and will be more practical, wider, bigger and bolder with all the right boxes ticked for luxury driving experience.
Mercedes A Class offer several new features and the aim of those features was only to support the new MFA structure. This structure will not change the driving system of the A Class because it will remain front wheel drive in 2018. Overall body structure will be heavily revised and will call MFA2.
With a slightly increased length and longer wheelbase it will offer more space inside. The rear reinvention will add a sufficient space to the boot of the hatchback and it will offer way more than today’s standard 341 litres volume in total on the back for the luggage.
It is expected that the front end compartment will receive some hefty make over and under the bonnet you will get an entirely new engine. Yes a new engine. Mercedes has developed a new 2.0 litre four cylinder diesel engine especially for the A-Class hatchback cars. These engines are the part of the diesel engine family of Mercedes and capable of generating around 160bhp to the maximum of 190bhp.
Mercedes was also thinking about the development of three cylinder diesel engines according to the Mercedes boss Bernhard Heil. He is the head of the powertrain development division at Mercedes. He believes that the three cylinder engines were under consideration for once because these models might get some electrification in the future. Mercedes will consider the three cylinder engines development very soon but till then 2.0 litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engines will do their job.
By the way, Mercedes has promised to introduce ten new Plugin hybrid vehicles by 2017 and all will be based on the new chassis. The powertrain is based on the petrol engines along with 50kW electric motors. It is also expected that the new models will get nine speed dual clutch transmissions. These transmissions will help the models to save fuel and energy and will help to go more than 30 miles on electric mode only.”
