GM said that the Z06 will be the most prevailing production car ever produced by GM. The 2015 Z06 has a 6.2-litre V8 engine that will generate 650 horsepower and can twist the package with 650 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm. According to the vice president of General Motors powertrain engineering, this new LT4 engine has a small block which sets a new benchmark for power and torque at General Motors. This engine has the capability of putting the corvette Z06 on par and it eventually can grab the position in the list of some powerful supercars offered in America. It has all the attributes that a vehicle requires to be a suitable car for daily driving.
When it starts, it generates 457 Lb-Ft of torque from only 2800rpm and then 625 Lb-Ft. GM further quotes a comparison between V12 engine from Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and the LT4 engine. The LT4 engine features 12% extra horsepower. Ferrari engine doesn’t reach its peak power of 509 Lb-Ft of torque until 6000 rpm. Torque is the main element of engine power and it pulls the package on the terrain.
Z06 LT4 engine has following specific features:
1-Aluminium cylinder heads,
2-Lightweight titanium intake valves,
3-Machined, forged powder metal steel connecting rods for reduced reciprocating mass
4-Compression ratio of 10.0:1, enabled by direct injection
5-Forged aluminium pistons with stronger structure
6-Stainless steel exhausts manifolds and an aluminium balancer
7-Paddle-shift 8-speed automatic, 7-speed manual transmission,
