It has been almost 20 years since Porsche last used a four-pot engine in any of its vehicles, the Porsche 968 in 1994 was the last front engine sports car to get a four pot engine, and now it’s the Macan, latest SUV from the Porsche.
With a dual rectangular exhaust and smaller wheels, the Macan is all different from its siblings Macan S, Diesel S and the Turbo that uses six-cylinder engines. It will use a 237 hp 2.0 litre petrol turbo engine – a close variant of the engine being used by Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Audi TT – mated by the ‘PDK’ seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It takes only 6.9 seconds to hit 0-62 mph with its top speed of 139 mph and return 37.6 mpg.
Whereas, the Macan S uses a 3.0 litre that produces 335 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to do a sprint of 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds, reaching 159 mph.
The price of Macan is not been confirmed yet as it is not made for UK. Words are out there that it will most probably go to the Chinese market but here in UK we can expect it to reach in very small numbers and that would definitely not be this year.
