Who doesn’t want to enjoy a sprightly drive in a car that is created to be driven? I, for one, enjoy the high fun factor that BMW’s little 120d gives – yes, and all this fun is completely from a diesel motorcar too!
BMW has the some of the world’s splendid engineering, and this leading edge build quality is also very much apparent in the ‘Baby Beemer’. Astoundingly, the BMW 120d has the smart performance figures to not only match but to improve the petrol alternative. And with an economy of fuel officially being claimed at 6.6L/100 km, one would surprise “Why not a diesel?â€
Along with 115 kW of power in the latest version and a time of almost 8 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, these are also some serious performance figures in a small car of this kind and practicality.
The manufacturer’s top speed is stated at being over 220 km/h. That, in my book, is quite majestic from a 2 litre turbo diesel engine. Let’s only add here that the grand BMW 120d also has a thumping 340 Nm of torque on tap at a quite low 1750 rpm.
Wow! These figures provide the BMW 120d plenty of power in all the exact and right places, mainly when passing slower traffic on the motorway. The small chassis and minimal overhang front and rear over the wheels means that both the balance and grip of the BMW 120d, when pushed slightly hard in cornering, is fantastic or should that be fantastic?
The changing of gear is beautifully smooth in the 6-speed Steptronic automatic (non-manual) gear box. The BMW 120d is electronically designed to place the engine’s hefty torque right at one’s right foot toes.
With ESP (Electronic Stability), ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes), front seatbelt pre tensioners, dynamic stability control, front driver and passenger airbags plus front side airbags, the BMW 120d is very well equipped in the safety arena.
Euro NCAP crash tests have proudly rated the BMW 120d with a five star, too. BMWs have always been an affable place to drive in, and the BMW 120d is no exception at all. The seats are really lovely and comfy, although legroom in the back of 120d is tight for the adult travelers.
This would surely make for an entertaining long commuting car. Luxury levels aren’t too bad seriously, with an immobilizer, an alarm, central locking, electric mirrors and electric front and back windows all being standard equipment. Adorable leather seats and Cruise control are some of the options that are accessible at an extra cost, as are alloy wheels and the metallic paint.
These optional extras in the car are standard on the better-equipped models of the BMW 120d, such as the ES model. The BMW 120d M has, of course, the much sportier M-suspension as standard as well as the M Sport aerodynamic body kit and the M sport steering wheel.
A great sounding CD player is a nice and standard item in any version of the BMW 120d. Perhaps not an ideal car for big families, but the BMW 120d is assuredly fantastic as a second car or for a couple to keep. And with crisp handling and loads of grip, the efficient BMW 120d is a very pleasing small car alternative.
If you ask me, it is a really a clever choice and you must give this car a chance. So, what do you think?”
