Honda has decided to replace its S2000 roadster that was expected to go on sale in 2018, the new hybrid model will feature with a 1.5-litre turbo engine, which will include F1 tech system.
The change has been made in the light of recent strict and revised emissions standards. Earlier it was expected that the Honda will come up with the mid-mounted version of the Civic Type R, having 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Honda engine but Honda has downsized engine to 1.5-litre to comply with the Euro 6 emissions standards.
The 1.5-litre turbo engine will be assisted with an electric motor and it is expected to generate a power of 300bhp. The original S2000, was expected to release as a roadster only but Honda is planning to change the strategy for its successor and will make it as a coupe only.
In regard to the design of the new model, Honda will follow its “flagship NSX”, with angular LED headlamps, and a wide air intake. The Honda’s relationship with Formula one will help to bring a revolutionary addition to the new model, the new model will be developed with the F1 technology by using Honda’s F1 programme.
Honda is preparing to hit its rivals such as the Porsche Cayman, BMW Z4, Audi TT and Alfa Romeo 4c with its upcoming hybrid model in three years’ time. The company wants to gain strong share in the US market. According to the details about pricing, Honda is thinking of setting a price of around £ 50,000 for its new model.
